Set of 2 Vintage Japanese Odori ‘Maiogi' Folding Dance Fans from Kyoto: Feb18-A
This matching set of two Maiogi Dance Fans was made by
Kyosendo
京扇堂,
one of Kyoto’s most renown fan makers. It came from a collection of vintage fans we
acquired and they were probably made in the 1970s-1980s. They were all of exceptional quality and clearly the owner was a person of discerning taste
, who was associated with the famous Japanese Buyo Dance company

Fujisen-Ryu of Meguro, Tokyo

These fans are sturdy and sound without any structural issues and appear to have been only very lightly used. They have no apparent frays or splits and only show very subtle corner creases in a few places and look almost new.
They would be lovely for dance practice where two matching fans are required or for display...
Their design is a dramatic, large
gold-flecked
design
or red across the top on a silvery-white background. The struts are glossy black
lacquer with
lead weights. They measures about 20” or 52cm from tip to tip when open and are 12” or about 30cm long when closed. They include their original boxes with labels from Kyosendo
. Made in Kyoto - Excellent quality!

Note that due to reduced flights, JAPAN POST has suspended Air Parcel service to the USA, Australia and a few other countries (Europe is not effected). It is not known how long this will last but in the meantime, we are using JAPAN POST SURFACE mail which has tracking and insurance but can take about 60 days to the USA.
Alternatively, for an additional charge, YAMATO INTERNATIONAL offers extremely fast door to door service for a flat-rate for their various size boxes. The smallest “60cm” box is to most countries, can hold up to two kg and measures 27 X 19 X 19cm and arrives in about a week.
