Antique Large China Head Doll 26" Dark Hair Blue Eyes Original
    Clothing
For sale is this antique doll that has been passed down several generations. I do not know her exact age, but I believe that she was made in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. All I am going by is the story that my mom shared and how she treasured this doll throughout her life.
She measures 26” from her head to her toes. Her head is in very nice condition free from any cracks or chips.
She does have some spots on the back of her head where the paint has rubbed off from resting on back. Her body, arms, and legs are cloth stuffed. The seams connecting her arms to the head/neck china based are loose but still intact. The ends of her hands and feet show some wear. Her dress as well as her undergarments are original. The burgundy dress is worn and sun damaged is some places and does not button up the back although there are buttons (thus the straight pins). Her petticoat and pantaloons are in very good condition but perhaps yellowed from what they were originally. Please see photos before purchasing this collectible doll.
I am sharing information that a collector sent me after seeing this listing:
Your gorgeous doll can be used as a boy or girl to make a complete doll with the exposed ears. The head was made by the German maker ABG which stands for Alt, Beck & Gottschalck. The doll may have a mold number at the lower shoulder area in the back or can be marked Germany. From what I can see in your photos you look to have a Mommy made body. The German makers at this time of 1860 - 1940. They would make a complete doll to sell clothed and shoed. Or would just sell the head so a Mom could teach her daughter or daughters to sew. Along with that she would teach them to sew the clothes or your doll may have been redressed by your own Mom.
    Thanks for looking.
