    Description

This is a beautiful 14" antique doll from the late 1800s to early 1900s. After some internet research (not a doll category I'm familiar with) I think she's an unmarked Hertwig low brow(?) china head doll. She has a fair complexion with
painted features- short black curly hair, blue eyes and rosy pink cheeks. The china head/shoulders are securely sewn onto the body but are unmarked. The hands are white china, attached at the lower arm area. Both hands show their age but the right hand has lost the fingers. This doesn't look recent- it's not sharp and the broken edge is the same color as the rest of the hand.
This pink cloth body is stuffed with wool (you can see the stuffing just below the shoulder/body connection. Her arms red cloth legs are jointed (sorta bendable) at the knee and elbow area. The legs feel like they're stuffed with either fine sawdust or excelsior. The doll's wearing black oilcloth high top shoes or boots that have machine stitched edges.
She's wearing a muslin under dress over same fabric pantaloons or knee length pants. Both pieces are sewn into place and not removable unless you un-stitch them. Neither pieces are trimmed with lace.
The doll is wearing a beautiful lace-trimmed indigo blue and off-white polka dot cotton dress from the same era. I'm not sure if it's her original dress because it seems slightly large on her.  All the seams and top stitching were sewn by machine with those impossibly tiny even stitches that old sewing machines produced so well. The 2 small buttons at the back yoke are made of shiny white shell; the button holes were sewn by hand.
She's a charming 125+ year old doll wearing an equally charming antique doll dress from the same era; I’ll be honored to keep her if she doesn’t sell! I put a special chair on my sewing table so she'll be watching me work until she gets a new home :-)
