    Description

    1960's Mattel Stallion Chrome Bicycle.
THIS RARE BICYCLE IS A 1960's MATTEL STALLION BICYCLE. ALL CHROME. PRODUCED FROM 1963 -1966 IN WILLARD OHIO. IT'S DESIGN WAS PATTERNED AFTER THE POPULAR HONDA MOTORCYCLES (NOTE THE DUAL EXHAUST PIPES ) OF THE EARLY SIXTIES. A VAROOM ENGINE WAS AN OPTION. THE ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM WAS WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME. THE COMPLETE LOWER FRAME WAS ENGINEERED TO PIVOT AT THE BASE OF THE REAR HEAD TUBE. THE DUAL TUBE FRAME DESIGN/TRIPLE TREE FORK AND 20" WHEELS WITH SEMI KNOBBY TIRES WAS ALSO A FIRST. THIS WAS EVERY KID'S DREAM BIKE. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT CHEAP. IN 1964 THIS BIKE SOLD FOR .00 (one dollar in 1964 had the same buying power of .99 in 2010) WHICH WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO 5.00 TODAY ! THIS BIKE IS THE PREDECESSOR TO THE MODERN DAY BMX BICYCLE. IT'S POPULARITY INSPIRED OTHER BICYCLE MANUFACTURERS TO PRODUCE THEIR OWN VERSION OF THE MUSCLE BIKE. THOSE INCLUDE THE SCHWINN KRATE (1968), THE MURRAY WILDCAT (1965), AND THE RALEIGH CHOPPER (1970), THESE BEING THE MOST POPULAR.
