Description
12” Emma Clear- bisque China Shoulder Head Doll with cloth body.
A translucent china shoulder head doll was created by doll artist Emma Clear during the 1940s. The back side of her shoulder head is incised "Clear” with a number or marking in the C that I can’t read. Her dress has her original owner’s name tag pinned to the inside of the waistband.
She is most likely a vintage reproduction as Emma Clear produced both original artist dolls and reproductions at her Humpty Dumpty Doll Hospital.
Doll has one stroke tan brows, brown or hazel eyes, blush and a closed mouth. Her blonde hair is modeled into vertical ringlets with pink bows. Her china lower arms and her lower legs, detailed with black heeled boots, are attached to a firmly stuffed abs very clean cloth body.
Elegant original clothing consists of a periwinkle blue tulle or net top layer with a pinkish periwinkle silk base layer. Dress trimmed with blue and white beads at neckline, metallic gold sequins at hem and gray velvet ribbons and bows. Her undergarments consist of a cotton organdy petticoat, cotton and lace pantaloons, eyelet top and lace-up corset.
Condition Issues: one tiny chip on the upper portion of her left boot. This keg also has some light scuff marks. Dress has some foxing-type staining to the fabric and one gray ribbon is missing a stitch near the hem. Eyelet undergarment has a spot. I don’t see any cracks but I’m not very familiar with the details of antique dolls. I can just tell you what I see and provide clear photos for you to view.
